Jay Clarence Swisher, Sr., of GRANDPA'S
PORCH, High Street, Arendtsville, PA, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at the
Gettysburg Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1927 in Cumberland
Township, Adams County, PA.
He was the widower of Carolyn (Codori)
Swisher, who died on October 13, 1992.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran
Church in Arendtsville, PA; was a Veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines,
serving in World War II; retired in 1990 after 30 years of service with
Sealed Air Corporation of Hanover, PA; member of Gettysburg Elks Club
#1045; Arendtsville Fire Company; and Apple Bin Breakfast Bunch.
In addition to his late wife, Mr. Swisher
was predeceased by his parents, Clarence A. and Fannie (Keefer) Swisher
and his step-mother, Alma Swisher.
Surviving are a son, Jay C. "Buck"
Swisher, Jr., and his wife, Diane of Boiling Springs, PA; 5 daughters,
Fannie Woerner and husband, Leo of Gettysburg, Yolanda McPherson and
her husband, Stephen of Harrisburg, Carlotta "Chucki" Strevig and her
husband, Edward of Littlestown, PA, Linda Knight and her husband, Ray of
Halifax, and Josephine "Josie" Pelc and her husband, Richard of
Biglerville, PA; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters,
Darlene Plank and Regina Kidd, both of Gettysburg, PA; and many nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by 3 children, Charles, Dennis and
Carolyn Swisher; a brother, Dale Swisher; and a sister, Dorothy Hafley.
Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at 10 a.m., at the Trinity Lutheran Church, High
Street, Arendtsville, PA, with the Rev. Robert Blezard officiating.
Interment will be in the Flohrs Cemetery, McKnightstown, PA. Viewing
will be held on Tuesday, May 15th, from 6-9 p.m., at the church.
