Biography

With the encouragement of her parents and siblings, Anita spent her early years pursuing a variety of creative activities. She marks her ninth birthday, when her parents gave her an easel, as the moment she first identified herself as an "Artist." She recalls, "What a thrill it was to receive a gift that was such a step up from crayons, and poster paint."

A native of Pennsylvania, Anita received a BFA from Tyler School of Art in 1976, and began her career as a staff artist for a television station in Jacksonville, Florida, illustrating news graphics, and public service announcements.

After the births of her sons, Anita continued her artistic endeavors by freelancing in design, illustration and teaching. Some of her clients were the United States Navy, Reston Publishing Company, the Poway (CA) Unified School District, Jacksonville University, the Bryn Mawr Hospital, DuPont Merck, Rohm and Haas, and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.

In 1997, Anita joined 30 West Advertising, an in-house advertising agency of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. In 2002, after more than 25 successful years as an Art Director and Illustrator, she left the corporate world to paint full time.

Intrigued by the power of color and composition, Anita engages the senses in her landscapes, her interiors, and her figuratives. She works in oil and characterizes her style as representational. Her sense of color is gutsy and convincing. While she maintains a studio in her home in Pennsylvania, Anita enjoys painting en plein aire as well. Her work is in numerous private collections throughout the United States and Australia.

"The natural world is a powerful influence on my work. I want to convey my experience of earth, sea and sky with the same exuberance and awe that I feel when I see something that inspires me. While I am developing a painting, I am energized and in a spiritual zone. I love the luscious quality of oil paint. The process of maniplulating the paint with a brush is filled with hidden surprises and marvelous juxtapositions of texture and color."

Anita is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Plein Aire Painters Association (MAPAPA), and the Wayne Art Center and exhibits her work throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Poem below by Anita:
Battle

At first, I hide in secret places mostly in my mother’s house
Fear and Anger, my companions, hover
Their fetid breath a yellow haze.

I run room to room locking windows, doors
Panic bleeds through the cracks
And joins this hideous vigil.

Outside, IT is snarling, howling, sniping, powerful.
The air is thick, hot, metallic
I can’t breathe and want to disappear.

My cowering emboldens IT.
Pounding and shattering, the walls split and spit bile
As IT invades my childhood home.

I rise from my fetal crouch screaming, kicking, swinging
Pouncing on IT with super strength
While sparks of silver hiss and zing.

Roaring, rushing crowd of sound propels me to self defense
With bloody knuckles, and bruised arms
I punch IT, smack IT, fight IT.

In retreat, ITs guttural wail evident as IT seeks another.
But not here. I look up and marvel at the cerulean sky
and know that I am a warrior.
