Susan Wright Wilson
Susan Wilson
October 24, 1948 - July 2, 2022
Spruce Pine, North Carolina - Susan Wright Wilson, while surrounded by her
family, entered into the presence of the Living Lord, on July 2, 2022, at the
age of 73, after a five-year battle with ovarian cancer. Her courage and
strength remained an inspiration until the end. Susan was predeceased by her
parents, Regina and Aubrey Wright and son-in-law, Mark Pressley.
Susan was raised in Charlotte, NC, where she made lifelong friends and a
multitude of wonderful memories. She met her husband, Dan, on a blind date; and,
once they met, there was never anyone else. They married in 1995 and shared a
twenty-seven-year long love story that few ever get to experience, and were
inseparable-if you saw one, you would see the other, each helping the other.
Susan graduated from East Mecklenburg High School and attended Gulf Park College
in Gulfport, MS. After college, Susan enjoyed working at Belk Stores Services;
as well as Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson law firm where she worked with Rick
Rayburn and eventually joined Rick when he established his own law firm, last
serving as the Firm's Administrator. Rick was an exceptional mentor, and he and
his wife, Yvonne, remained good friends until Susan's passing. After Susan and
Dan married, she joined her husband at his company, Asset Protection Associates,
Inc., where she genuinely enjoyed working side by side with Dan as a
professionally licensed private investigator conducting corporate investigations
until retirement.
Susan's parents were charter members of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in
Charlotte where Susan attended growing up and was a member until joining First
Baptist Church of Spruce Pine. Susan was actively involved at both churches and
held many positions and served on many committees but teaching Sunday School,
first children and then adults, was what she truly believed the Lord called her
to do. She served as an inspiration for all who knew her and was a living
example of Proverbs 31:10-31. Never one to criticize, she possessed an inner
peace, grace and serenity. Susan was polite in all respects, never uttering an
ugly word. In addition to a love of their mountain home in Little Switzerland,
she and her husband developed a hobby of small ship cruising, completing more
than twenty-five cruises.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Daniel E. Wilson; her cherished
children, daughter, Bronwyn J. Pressley of Charlotte; son Chad D. Lewis and
wife, Ashley, of Indian Trail; stepsons Mark Wilson of Charlotte, and Scott
Wilson and wife, Anna, of Matthews; grandchildren Drew Lewis and wife, Lydia, of
Raleigh; Aubrey Pressley; Gracyn Lewis Bartelucci and husband, Erik; Madelyn
Lewis; Sarah Cameron Wilson; Jackson Wilson; Addison Wilson; Sophia Wilson;
Asher Wilson; great granddaughter, Maddison Beadle and great grandson, Max
Lewis. Susan's brother Aubrey H. Wright and wife, Charlene, of New Smyrna Beach,
FL; and nieces, nephew, and cousins. Susan's brother-in law, David Wilson (Ann).
of Maryville, TN. Susan is also survived by two lifelong friends, Maria Haney
Spillars, and Brilla Gibson Winchester, who she has known since age 5, and
shared everything with them from baby dolls to births of grandchildren and
everything in between.
A service to celebrate Susan's life was held at First Baptist Church of Spruce
Pine on Wednesday, July 6, 2002 at 2:00 pm on with Dr. Rocky Branch officiating.
Visitation was from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church. Private interment was
in the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
